"He swore at my children, and now he swears at me and my dead child," said Milovan Milivojević after the news that Tomo Stojić was pardoned
Photo: We are not drowning BelgradeIn the Belgrade elections, he will run in the race for mayor in front of the green-left coalition Moramo. He is a political scientist by profession, an environmentalist by conviction, and an urbanist by commitment. He calls himself "dobrinačelak" on Twitter. He became known to the public when, in April 2015, Ne da(vi)mo Belgrade organized protests in favor of Belgrade on the water under the slogan "Let's show them the duck". A large yellow styrofoam duck was a symbol of protest
Although he seems very young, he is not really that young. He was born in 1981 in Belgrade, where he completed primary and secondary school, and then at the Faculty of Political Sciences (FPN) earned the title of Graduated Political Scientist.
At the same faculty, he worked as an assistant coordinator at the Center for Peace Studies, and later on publishing books in this field. He continued his project career, and later held the position of coordinator of mostly civil associations and movements on several occasions.
He is one of the founders of the Neda(vi)mo Belgrade Initiative and one of its most prominent members. The movement was founded as a protest against urban violence in Belgrade, primarily against the Belgrade on Water project.
In April 2015, they organized the first major protest under the slogan "Let's show them the duck", styrofoam, large and yellow. They drove her in their truck (and boat) to several more protests and actions until one day the authorities kidnapped her. Members of the Initiative received reports, they were detained, followed, eavesdropped, detained, they were dragged across the front pages of government tabloids, they were threatened, the police (although this has not been officially confirmed) surrounded and fenced off their protests with trams and strong cordons, so that people would not could daim join.
Everything changed on election night in 2016. The Herzegovina case was the "click" after which the whole of Serbia found out what Belgrade on the water really is, and a large number of people stood behind the yellow duck, which began to walk more actively in the streets of Belgrade, demanding an answer to the question of who illegally demolished an entire neighborhood in the center of the main square at night. city of the Republic of Serbia. Although Aleksandar Vučić once said that he knows who these "idiots" are, there is no court epilogue to this day.
The initiative advocates environmental issues, citizens' sovereignty, politics tailored to citizens, a just society. They are guided by the slogan that change comes from below.
Dobric pointed out that through the Initiative they offer people something new, that "the topics they are dealing with did not exist before", he wants to turn Belgrade into a "good city". As the movement itself says, they do not have a leader, but Veselinović comes to them as a kind of trademark, of course next to the yellow "duck" which is the official symbol.
Earlier he said that "they started as a group of losers, from whom no one expected anything", but also that they survived. A little later, he added that he could "see himself as mayor". They experienced a transformation from citizen activists in an NGO to politicians in a political movement. They learned a lot along the way.
Apart from civil disobedience in the form of joint Initiative protests and some local actions, Veselinović did not build a political career. Ne da(vi)mo Belgrade participated in the Belgrade elections in 2018, but they did not pass the census.
He is close to the current mayor of Zagreb, Tomislav Tomašević, also a green-left urban activist and political environmentalist.
The Moramo coalition consists of the Initiative not (vi)mo Belgrade, the Open Civic Platform Akcija and the Environmental Uprising. Dobrica Veselinović says that the chances of winning in Belgrade are high, that on April 3 they have the opportunity to create a "green, sustainable and solidary city", our city.
