Movement of Free Citizens (PSG) undertook the "European Cities" campaign, with the aim of presenting the concrete benefits of European standards and Serbia's membership to the citizens The European Union.
The first event within the campaign was held in Belgrade, where citizens were presented with examples of Budapest's development after Hungary's entry into the European Union, as well as the opportunities that Belgrade could achieve through access to European funds and the application of European management standards.
"While European capitals in recent decades have used European Union funds to build subways, improve public transportation and arrange public spaces, Belgrade has remained a symbol of missed opportunities, corruption and development that serves the interests of individuals instead of citizens," said Stefan Simić, president of the Belgrade Board of PSG, presenting the campaign in Belgrade.
PSG President Pavle Grbović assessed that European integration is not a matter of bureaucracy and negotiation chapters, but of everyday life of citizens. "Citizens are not interested in the number of open chapters, but whether they have functional transportation, organized schools and kindergartens, clean air and institutions that work in their interest," said Grbović.
He added that membership in the European Union brings better roads, cleaner rivers, more modern public transport and greater opportunities for young people.
The movement announced that in the coming period, in several cities of Serbia, it will present examples of European cities that have improved infrastructure, public services, environmental protection and the quality of life of citizens thanks to their countries' membership in the European Union.
