Professor Faculty of Medicine u Belgrade Milica Bajčetić was officially elected dean of that institution today (June 12), Professor Valentina Arsić Arsenijević told FoNet. According to her, there was a quorum at the session of the Council of the Faculty of Medicine, although seven members resigned.
"There were no problems with the quorum and without them there was a two-thirds majority. Everything went well," said Arsenijević.
The vice-dean's team was also chosen, which includes the wife of the Minister of Science, professor of the Faculty of Medicine Milena Balint, MP of the Serbian Progressive Party and director of the Clinical and Hospital Center Bežanijska kosa Marija Zdravković, as well as professor Aleksandar Milovanović.
On May 25, the committee for the implementation of the election for the dean of the Faculty of Medicine determined the list of candidates, which only includes the professor of the Department of Pharmacology, Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology, Milica Bajčetić, while the candidacy of Vesna Bjegović Mikanović was not accepted due to her imminent retirement. Because of such a decision, Professor Bjegović Mikanović appealed to the court, finding it illegal.
Bajčetić's candidacy was supported by only six departments, while Bjegović Mikanović was supported by 22 departments.
Lawyer Bjegović Mikanović Jovan Rajić spoke about the legal process on Thursday, who said on the X social network that the ban on candidacy was legal violence and that they demanded that the process of selecting the dean be stopped.
Vladan Đokić, rector of the University of Belgrade, also reacted to this topic. Earlier, he sent a letter to the acting dean and the Council of the Faculty of Medicine, Milena Balint, in which he invited them to consider the decisions related to the candidacy of Vesna Bjegović Mikanović and act in accordance with their competences. The rector warned of numerous irregularities in the procedure for selecting the dean of the Faculty of Medicine.
Despite this, at the session of the Teaching and Research Council, the candidacy of Professor Milica Bajčetić was determined, which was also voted by the Council of the Faculty of Medicine at today's session in the final instance.
