There are only three days until the event Kosovo parliamentary elections. The campaign had everything - meetings, tours, promises, "expulsion of Serbia from Kosovo", closure of Serbian institutionsand, the enormous number of punishments of the Electoral Panel for Appeals and Petitions (IPŽP) against various political subjects, "God's justice" was sung, the flags of "Greater Albania" were waved, and more.
Out of 120 seats in the parliament, 10 are reserved for representatives of Serbs. That number of mandates Serbian list she set as her goal.
On the other hand, Self-Determination has set an apparently ambitious goal of 500.000 votes. Kosovo Prime Minister Aljbin Kurti presented this goal at a pre-election rally in Ferizaj by throwing pieces of paper simulating ballots into the air and shouting: "Vetëvendosje (Self-determination)!".
What stands out in the public eye is that more political entities representing Serbs are participating in these elections. In the race are the Serbian List, the Party of Kosovo Serbs, For Freedom, Justice and Survival, Serbian Democracy, the Serbian People's Movement and the Civic Initiative Narodna Pravda.
While a total of 28 political subjects are in the race.
Since it is a matter of parliamentary elections, they are not important for the position of citizens like local elections. Nevertheless, they are significant for the assessment of the Serbian List. Specifically - has it managed to maintain its previous influence or has it declined in the meantime.
They left the institutions in 2022, and appeared in the Assembly of Kosovo only for the purpose of verifying the mandate without participating in the work of the parliament.
"God of Justice"
One of the last pre-election rallies of the Serbian List in North Mitrovica began with the national anthem of the Republic of Serbia "God's Justice". From that meeting, the president of the Serbian List, Dr. Zlatan Elek, said: "Our people were not kept here by empty talkers and street musicians." Our people did not maintain false patriotism. It was sustained by open jobs, a roof over its head and good infrastructure projects, with the help of the State of Serbia and the Serbian List".
He cited the "deeds of the Serbian List", and then said: "Make it possible for us, God willing, to replace and expel these false mayors in the fall." Let's return this 'fake' mayor to where he came from. Let's bring him back to Kosovo Polje, so let him put up yellow tapes there, let him dismantle, let him do what he wants. What our old people would say - 'a beautiful house is far away'".
During the campaign, they mostly visited health centers.
The gun, expulsion and the "aggressor state"
The Self-Determination campaign took place with a special focus on the north of Kosovo. One of the last gatherings was in Podujevo. At that gathering, Kurti said that in Podujevo "is the longest border with Serbia" and that those municipalities are led by mayors from Self-Determination.
Where the border with Serbia is, Kurti determined that the people know very well who is "defending Kosovo from the genocidal, aggressor state of Serbia." If there were other political parties in the border municipalities, it would be a problem, because they say 'I understand' to Serbia. There is no 'I understand' with a bad neighbor. When you have a bad neighbor, you have to keep your morale high and your gun loaded."
A good part of the Self-Determination campaign was spent in the rhetoric of "expelling the Republic of Serbia from the territory of Kosovo."
Diaspora voters
The director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petković, met with displaced Serbs in various cities of central Serbia and invited them to vote in the upcoming elections.
"It is important that the Serbs at this moment preserve unity at a time when others would divide us, as our people in Kosovo and Metohija know best."
The first package of ballots from the diaspora arrived on Wednesday (February 5) at the headquarters of the Central Election Commission of Kosovo (CEC).
"I can confirm that 36.500 packages with ballots, which belong to the postal voting process, have been delivered to the Central Election Commission. These packages arrived in CEC mailboxes outside of Kosovo, from Germany and Switzerland," said CEC spokesman Valjmir Eljezi.
