Mayor of Novi Sad Milan Djuric he resigned on Tuesday by informing the public about it with a post on his Instagram profile.
"As a responsible man and a responsible politician, I submit my irrevocable resignation from the post of mayor." Novi Sad. Among other things, he emphasized that "as someone who believes in the power of dialogue and mutual understanding", he believes that accepting responsibility and resigning is his human and political obligation and moral duty.
"Resignation is not an expression of weakness or retreat in the face of challenges, but an act of assuming responsibility and opening space for the restoration of trust among citizens," Đurić stressed.
He added that it is an expression of his "deep respect for the citizens of Novi Sad" and his faith in democratic processes and faith that in this way I will contribute to calming tensions and creating space for constructive dialogue and the continuation of projects to further improve the lives of all Novi Sad residents.
"I am proud of everything we have done in previous years for the city of Novi Sad and the people of Novi Sad. Novi Sad is a city where two bridges are under construction, and the construction of three bridges will begin. A city where the average salary reached nearly 115.000 dinars. And the city's budget reached RSD 47,9 billion," said Đurić.
The resignation of Đurić was announced by Vucevic
Previously, the resigned Prime Minister Miloš Vucevic announced that Đurić would submit resignation to the post of mayor of Novi Sad.
Vucevic is at a press conference, where he announced that he was resigning from the post of Prime Minister of Serbia, confirmed the rumors that Đurić is leaving the position of the first man of Novi Sad.
"Thus, we fulfilled even the most political demands of the most extreme part of the demonstrators." Both the Prime Minister and the Mayor of Novi Sad believe that they are objectively responsible for what happened, and as objectively responsible, we submit our resignations. Let it lead to the calming of passions, let it lead to a return to dialogue, conversation. Whichever party you vote for or support, we must be aware that we must preserve Serbia as a country, not Serbia as an emotion," said the Prime Minister in his resignation.
Let us recall that the resignation of Vučević and Đurić, along with the publication of complete documentation on the reconstruction of the Railway Station building in Novi Sad, was the first demand of the Novi Sad opposition and students after the fall of the canopy on November 1, when 15 people lost their lives.
