In the second semi-final night, Serbia advanced to the finals of this year's competition for the best song of Europe with the performance of Ana Đurić Konstrakta.
The competition in the second semi-final was slightly higher than it was the case on the first night, but the Serbian representative quickly managed to win the hearts of the audience at the Palasport Olimpico arena in Turin. Interesting visual-artistic expression of Konstructa was accompanied by applause until the end.
Konstructa was the only one who sang entirely in her native language tonight, and the performance was accompanied by the translation of certain verses into English. Given that the organizers of Eurovision did not allow the translation to run simultaneously during the entire song, the representatives of Serbia chose the most impressive parts of the song so that everyone understands the message of the song.
Political scientist Nemanja Purić tells the "Vremena" portal that something like Konstructa has never been seen before at the Eurovision Song Contest, adding that regardless of the fact that she sang in Serbian, everyone understood her message.
"The biggest surprise and what everyone is talking about is definitely Serbia." This kind of artistic performance, for which Ana Đurić was inspired by the art of Marina Abramović, has never been seen before at Eurovision."
He estimates that this year's selection for the best song of Europe is the most uncertain since 2011, when the duo from Azerbaijan won. According to him, the choice is additionally uncertain due to the fact that "no one is sure to what extent the jury and the audience will reward Ukraine due to the current political situation".
He adds that this year, as in the previous ones, Eurovision is a mirror of current political relations on the European continent, but also a place from which messages of peace, tolerance and the importance of diversity are always sent.
"Ukraine is traditionally, next to Sweden, one of the most successful countries when it comes to Eurovision. However, this year the Ukrainians sent an average song by their standards. However, mainly due to the political situation, Ukraine is convincingly leading the bookmakers," concludes Purić.
Serbia is in tenth place at bookmakers, and as written on forums dedicated to Eurovision, the ranking could be better after tonight's performance. The last time Serbia was in the top ten was in 2015, when it represented Bojana Stamenov with a song Beauty Never Lies. Ukraine, Great Britain, Sweden, Spain and Italy are still leading the bookmakers for now.
