Dragana Đurica from the European Movement assessed that the messages that were heard on Tuesday in to the European Parliament during the discussion on glorification Ratko Mladić very difficult for Serbia, especially due to the possibility that the European institutions will reconsider its further path towards EU membership.
Guest on N1, Đurica singled out as a positive side of the debate the fact that the MEPs clearly separated the citizens of Serbia from the current government.
According to her, they showed respect for citizens who do not support the glorification of war criminals, nor would they agree to such a policy.
She thinks that to the European Union it is now clear that the government in Serbia, which for a time appeared to be pro-European, actually did not fundamentally distance itself from the politics of the 1990s.

Đurica warned that the latest events will be included in the European Commission's report on Serbia, which should be presented at the end of October. The extent of the consequences for Serbia will depend on the specific moves of the EU institutions and their intensity, as she stated.
According to her opinion, the consequences of political decisions will be felt mostly by the citizens, and not by those who brought about such a situation. She added that certain EU member states, which were previously ready for certain political compromises, could now be much more difficult to convince to support Serbia's progress in European integration.
Đurica expects that in the next report, the evaluations about Serbia's democratic decline will be reflected in particular. She reminded that in previous years there was talk of selective implementation of reforms, then of their stagnation, and then of regression, especially when it comes to democratic standards and election conditions.
Therefore, as she assessed, she does not expect that the next report of the European Commission will be more favorable. He believes that it will also record what happened in connection with the funeral of Ratko Mladić, as similar assessments have already found a place in this year's resolution of the European Parliament.
Nevertheless, Đurica singled out the fact that there is even talk of the possibility of ending Serbia's European path as a particularly serious signal. According to her, the European Commission is also assessing the question of whether Serbia, not only formally but also politically and as a society, remains a candidate for membership.
She assessed such a scenario as one of the most difficult that could hit the country, because the consequences, as she stated, would be multiple - from security and political to economic, educational and broader social. And in that case, Đurica concluded, the largest part of the damage would again be borne by the citizens.
