European Parliament will discuss on Tuesday the Draft resolution on Serbia's progress in the accession process European Union (EU), based on the report of the permanent rapporteur for Serbia Tonina Picula, and that text, which states that the country is stagnating on the European path due to the collapse of democracy and the rule of law, will be discussed for only 30 minutes.
The debate is planned for Tuesday from 19:30 to 20:00, after the discussions on the progress of Ukraine and Moldova in the process of accession to the Union, which will last for one hour, it was announced on the website of the European Parliament.
According to the Contemporary Politics portal, the largest parliamentary group in the European Parliament, the European People's Party (EPP), tried to prevent the debate on Serbia, insisting that the resolution on Serbia be put directly to the vote.
After the negotiations of the parliamentary groups in the European Parliament, a compromise was reached according to which the discussion will take place, but it was significantly shortened, so instead of a standard debate with a larger number of speakers, it was agreed that only one representative from each political group would speak.
In the draft resolution on Serbia, it was stated that among the urgent issues that need to be resolved are increased political polarization and the need for structural reforms, including the fight against corruption.
The document, among other things, states the need to reach a comprehensive agreement on the normalization of relations with Kosovo and achieve full compliance with the EU's foreign policy.
The vote on the text of the resolution is scheduled for July 8 at 12 noon.
