Van Brent reacted to Vučić on X statement during the rally that he is facing his last days as president of Serbia.
"Vučić and his party have no intention of relinquishing power. He announced his departure on his own stage, under his own conditions: without a time frame, without dissolving the parliament and without a guarantee of free and fair elections," said the MEP from the ranks of Socialists and Democrats.
Prepared scenario
Van Brent claims that Vučić "has been preparing a familiar scenario for months: highlighting a reliable ally for the president, continuing to pull strings behind the scenes, and later returning to the post of prime minister."
"We have already seen this scenario with his good friend Vladimir Putin," the post added.
Van Brent warned that "Europe must not repeat the mistakes of the past."
"This is not the moment to reduce the pressure or return to business as usual. This is the moment to unconditionally stand by the Serbian people and the democratic movement," she stated.
Van Brent concluded that the future of Serbia is in Europe, but that it "must be a democratic Serbia" and that Europe must advocate for it.
She is a Belgian politician of social democratic orientation.
"Run away, man"
MEP Andreas Schider, also in a post on the X network, welcomed Aleksandar Vučić's decision, saying that his sudden withdrawal was welcome, but that Serbia needed reforms.
Ana Brnabić, president of the National Assembly and vice-president of the SNS, reacted to Šider's announcement, writing:
"Who cares what you welcome and who and what gives you the right to ask for anything from Serbia? Run away."
