US Assistant Secretary of State Karen Donfried and US Special Envoy for the Western Balkans Gabriel Escobar met with Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani in Pristina on Monday.
KoSSev reported that, in their opinion, the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina should focus on mutual recognition.
At a joint press conference with Donfried, Osmani said that they discussed the urgency of dialogue and the need for progress in that process, always focused on mutual recognition, reports Gazeta Express. She added that Pristina is committed to the process taking place in Brussels.
"We are grateful to hear once again that the USA strongly supports our Euro-Atlantic integration and the territorial sovereignty of Kosovo." The USA has no greater ally than Kosovo. "We can be a small country, but with cooperation with our allies we can have a significant impact," said the Kosovo president.
Osmani also expressed disappointment because, she says, Belgrade has not implemented many of the agreements it committed to in Brussels, "including to abolish the illegal structures that continue to terrorize Kosovo Serbs."
Karin Donfried believes that Kosovo must fight every day to meet its citizens and get its rightful place in European and Euro-Atlantic institutions. According to Koha, she said that this includes intensifying efforts in the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, which, she claims, should be aimed at mutual recognition.
"The war in Ukraine has shown how important it is to work urgently to ensure that Kosovo and its neighbors continue with the reforms necessary for democratic consolidation and their integration into European and Euro-Atlantic institutions. Kosovo's peace and progress, although hard-earned, should not be taken for granted. We have to fight every day to meet the citizens," Donfried said.
"KFOR, which is the largest contingent of NATO, is the main and visible manifestation of our continuous commitment to the security and stability of Kosovo. The US is proud that we can call Kosovo a partner," Donfried said. Karen Donfried is coming to Belgrade tomorrow, and then, as part of her tour of the Western Balkans, she will also visit Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and North Macedonia.
