The Union of Social Work Students of the Faculty of Political Sciences strongly condemned the statement of the deputy of the Serbian Progressive Party Vladimir Đukanović who said that "child property of the state until the age of majority".
"It goes against all domestic and international legal acts and conventions on children's rights, which are an integral part of general human rights," it was announced.
It was stated that Đukanović obviously does not understand the gravity of what he stated, "or else he deliberately wanted to cause additional confusion and anxiety among parents and thereby intimidate citizens that the blockades of educational institutions throughout Serbia are anti-state and against everyone's interests."
"With this statement, he emphasized the primary 'interest' of the state, which is actually hidden by the current goals and aspirations of this regime, shaken by blockades." It is also shameful that Đukanović, as a lawyer by profession with a passed bar exam, declares such falsehoods on television with a national frequency," it was announced.
It was assessed that with his statement, Đukanović humiliated not only the legal and advocacy professions, but by stating that centers for social work should participate in state repression, which is reflected in the ownership of children, he also humiliated the profession of social work.
"The primary task of social workers is to protect children from any form of violence, repression or 'ownership' of a human being, especially children who are a very susceptible group for this or similar manipulations," it was announced.
