After 25 years Exit is this summer announced the end in Serbia. Since then, everyone has been wondering if and where the festival will move, and the candidate for mayor of Skopje, Orce Djordjevski, has announced a new destination - he claims that this music festival is coming to the capital of North Macedonia.
"It is with great pleasure that I inform you that I have spoken with the founder of 'Exit', Mr. Dušan Kovačević, so that from next year Skopje will be the new destination of one of the leading European festival groups," Djordjeevski wrote on Facebook with photos from the meeting with Kovačević and the title "Exit is coming to Skopje!".
Djordjevski pointed out that "he is convinced that a brand like 'Exit' will significantly increase the quality of the entertainment life and cultural offer of Skopje and Macedonia, putting it on the map of top destinations for the visit of a huge number of tourists", noting that "the citizens of Skopje and Macedonia deserve the best".
Orce Djordjevski is currently the mayor of the Skopje municipality of Kisela Voda and the candidate of the ruling conservative party VMRO DPMNE for the mayor of the City of Skopje in the upcoming local elections, so Exit is probably part of his campaign.
They are not going to Skopje or Egypt.
Soon, however, the organizer himself announced himself:
"Due to the increasingly frequent dilemmas regarding whether Exit is moving to Egypt or to another destination, we inform the public that in front of the Great Pyramids of Giza, as well as in several locations around the planet, we are creating new festivals, as in previous years we organized Sea Dance and Sea Star in Montenegro and Croatia, as well as numerous events throughout the region and the world," is part of the announcement sent by Exit.
They added that "at this moment, there is no possibility that the festival will be held in Serbia next year, since the festival has been denied all state co-financing at the local, provincial and national level due to the support of students."
"Exit was denied the support of the main sponsor of the state-owned festival, mts, after 22 years of successful cooperation. Bearing in mind that due to the unfavorable economic situation in the country and the region, ticket prices are many times lower than the prices of festivals of a similar format in Europe, it is not possible to organize a festival of the scale of Exit in the domestic economic framework without the support of the state," they add.
Daughters-festivals
Namely, on July 10th announced that the Exit Festival should launch a new festival next year to be held in Egypt, near the famous pyramids.
This information was first published by "Jutarnji list", and the media reported that the Egyptian pyramids are the location where the next Exit will be held, after the organizers announced that this could be the last edition of the festival at the Petrovaradin Fortress in "Serbia like this".
The company then told "Jutarnji list" that they had signed an agreement to create a new festival in front of the pyramids next year, but that official information about it would be published after the jubilee edition of the festival in Novi Sad.
In previous years, Exit started new festivals, such as Sea Star and Sea Dance, in the region, and going to Giza would represent a new stage in the development of this organization. In previous years, concerts were held in front of the pyramids, but the festival organized by Exit would be the first of its kind.
Freedom has no price.
Before the start of this year's festival, which marked its 25th anniversary, Exit announced the possibility of leaving Serbia - due to financial and other pressures they faced due to their support for student protests.
It was said that freedom has no price and that the jubilee edition will be the last that takes place "in Serbia like this".
"Although we know that we are welcome in many parts of the world, we owe our city and our audience the last dance at the Petrovaradin Fortress, which is why our entire team is more determined than ever to make this year's edition the most emotional and unforgettable yet," they stated in a statement in mid-June.
