"Anyway... are you normal?" That's how one passenger with Belgrade Airport reacted when one of the employees there - and in this case a completely innocent girl - told him that there was no more room for smoking in the transit area of the airport.
The man was just preparing cigarettes and then, like a good number of passengers, he realized that he could not indulge in his vice for the next few hours.
In truth, the French operator of Vancy airport has so far given passengers bigger disappointments than that, such as frequent delays, lack of people and sprinklers to de-ice the planes.
It's also true, smoking at the Belgrade airport was an anxious experience even before, since the smoking booths were chosen for that, too small to accommodate all smokers, full of ash and quickly smoky so that you can't see a finger in front of your eye.
However, the decision to close such a smoking area surprised many travelers that the "Vremena" reporter spoke with, especially in a country where smoking is still allowed in bars.
Looking for a solution
Although "Nikola Tesla" airport told "Vreme" that in many European and international airports there is no smoking in the terminals, the fact is that in most European airports you can still smoke in special cabins, rooms or even on beautiful terraces with a view of the runway. like in, say, Pristina.
In response, the Belgrade airport reminds that Serbian law in principle prohibits smoking at airports - that is, all closed stations or waiting areas of public transport, including air transport.
"The existence of the smoking room located in the transit area of the Belgrade airport was made possible on the basis of a special permit from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Serbia, which was of limited duration," the answer reads.
But smokers seem to have some chances: "Based on the suggestions of our users, we recognize the need for a location for this purpose at the Belgrade airport, and we are considering various options in cooperation with the competent ministry in order to provide and improve this service for our passengers."
It is not yet known exactly when and whether the space will be better than before, which is not difficult.
