The Informal Association Rebellious University, whose members are employed at higher education institutions and scientific institutes, announced that it expresses deep dissatisfaction with the work Supreme Public Prosecutors Zagorke Dolovac, regarding the determination of responsibility for the collapse of the canopy at the railway station in Novi Sad, and her resignation was requested.
"Although four months have passed since the beginning of the student protests and the blockade of classes at the faculties, the work of the public prosecutor's office has remained ineffective and non-transparent, hidden from the eyes of the public, and does not instill any confidence that the above-mentioned demands will be met," according to the statement, reports FoNet.
It is emphasized that there is an explicit obligation of the public prosecution to inform the public about the state of criminality, and it can, with certain restrictions, inform the public about individual proceedings as well, and this obligation is further strengthened by the fact that the public prosecution, through amendments to the Law on Criminal Procedure and the introduction of prosecutorial investigations, gained significant powers in relation to the courts in the fight against crime.
"After four months, our strong impression is that the work of the public prosecution is aimed at protecting those who are responsible and those in power, instead of serving the public interest. The Constitution and the Law on Public Prosecutions prohibit undue influence on the work of the public prosecution, and such is undoubtedly the influence of the President of the Republic who, although he is not competent, threatens to dismiss prosecutors who do not make decisions as he expects," the members of the association pointed out.
They particularly condemn the lack of reaction to the violence against students and other citizens during a large, peaceful protest in Belgrade on March 15, and point out that the speed with which the public prosecutor's office denied the use of violence at a peaceful protest is the latest in a series of evidence that the Supreme Public Prosecutor has neither the willingness nor the will to perform his duty in accordance with the law, the oath given when taking office, professional ethics and in the interest of citizens.
"Taking into account the above, we, the members of the Rebel University, demand that the Supreme Public Prosecutor immediately submit his irrevocable resignation due to the inadequate exercise of competence and obstruction of the work of the prosecution. In the event that the Supreme Public Prosecutor does not do so as his personal and professional act, we demand that the High Council of Prosecutions propose to the National Assembly the termination of the office of Zagorka Dolovac," the statement states.
