Assistant Minister and head of the Department for Emergency Situations, Luka Čaušić, visited the firefighters-rescuers who have been extinguishing the fire for the fourth day. fire on Deliblatska Peščara and stated that the optimal number of personnel and the complete necessary mechanization were engaged in the field, stressing that the situation on the field is still extremely difficult and uncertain due to unfavorable weather conditions and strong wind, it was announced from the Cabinet of the Minister of Internal Affairs.
"For the fourth day, the incredible fight against the fire element here in Deliblatska peščara continues. We are currently in the Šumarak settlement, which we are intensively defending, so we are defending the houses. Right behind these residential buildings, there is a huge median that we have made, over 50 meters long, 1.700, maybe even 2.000 meters long. However, the wind is so strong and the conditions are so unfavorable when it comes to the development of this fire, and this fight will be both difficult and uncertain," he said. is Caušić.
More than 300 people
As he said, there are more than 300 people on the ground, 30 working machines, members of the Emergency Situations Sector, firefighters-rescuers, as well as members of the Vojvodina Forest, the Serbian Army with all their equipment and vehicles, members of public companies, citizens, volunteer firefighters and representatives of the municipality.
He pointed out that the optimal number of personnel was engaged in the field, and that four helicopters, namely three helicopters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and one helicopter of the Serbian Army, were involved in extinguishing the fire, which engulfed about one and a half thousand hectares of forest and low vegetation.
"Due to the very configuration of the terrain and strong winds, the only thing we can do is to surround the fire with fire protection sections. We have 29-30 large working machines and in this way we will try to contain the fire and this will certainly last", said Čaušić, adding that the priority is to make sure that no one gets hurt and that the houses and the forest area of this natural pearl are protected.
Čaušić thanked all the firefighters-rescuers who participate day and night in the intervention.
"Here are the operative managers of this action and a member of the Department for Emergency Situations, Nedeljko Gagić, Ivan Tešić from Vojvodina. People have not slept for four days, not even those who immediately put out the fire. It's really a huge effort from everyone," explained Čaušić.
We get everything we need from the Government
He emphasized that the Republican Headquarters for Emergency Situations is in constant session, as well as that they receive absolutely everything they need from the Government of Serbia.
"The most important thing is that no one gets hurt, we are fighting day and night to preserve these houses in this neighborhood. Last night, the fire even entered certain yards, but it stopped there, but as you know, this is a windy climate," said the head of the Department for Emergency Situations, explaining that in this area there is a very strong wind that makes work difficult, as well as extremely high temperatures.
He said that last night's evacuation was done as a precaution, and that there are also members of the police who help with everything, adding that due to unfavorable weather conditions and winds, extinguishing the fire on Deliblatska peščara will take some time.
The fire at Ušće is localized
On this occasion, Čaušić appealed to the citizens to be careful in such temperatures and not to light any fires, stressing that in the last two or three days there have been more than three hundred fires in Serbia.
"What I am especially happy about and I thank the members of Srbijašum, our colleagues as well as the Helicopter Unit is that we localized the fire at Ušće. It engulfed a significant conifer complex there and our people prevented it," added Čaušić, specifying that there are two more active fires, one of which is in an inaccessible part in the town of Stolovi, where mostly low vegetation and grass are burning.
