Members of the Security and Information Agency and the competent public prosecutor's office arrested four people for espionage.
As it was announced, in the joint action "another spy network in Serbia was broken."
It was confirmed to Tanjug in the security structures that the BIA discovered the representative office of a foreign organization that was acting as an intelligence and subversive agent in Serbia, conducting classic espionage activity, and all the arrested were Serbian citizens.
Two of the arrested were employed in the Serbian office of a foreign organization and were allegedly "continuously engaged in the collection of information of an intelligence nature", some of which have the status of confidentiality and secrecy.
The information they collected allegedly concerned the work and functioning of Serbian state bodies and institutions and certain public companies, but also resources from the national defense system of Serbia, especially the military security services.
A special segment of their interest was individual state managers, but also citizens and business companies.
Recruited in state bodies
The other two arrested, who worked for the benefit of this organization, are employed in the state bodies of the Republic of Serbia.
They, on the direct order and instructions of the other two prosecuted from a foreign organization, "knowingly and with intent" collected secret and confidential official data at their disposal, which are under special legal and IT protection, and delivered them to their principals.
As stated, the communication and exchange of information was carried out via protected/encrypted connections, and they obtained illegal material benefits for the provided data. Payments were made exclusively in cash.
During the search of the facilities used by the members of this spy network, special technical equipment was found that the suspects used in their activities and that, in accordance with the law, was sent for further analysis and expertise.
However, the statement does not say for whose benefit the four arrested were spying.
