Elektroprivreda Srbije started an avalanche
It was previously and Electric power industry of Serbia (EPS) in June electricity bill informed the users that starting this month, the payment account will be changed, and that instead of the current treasury account, payments will be made to the current account of the aforementioned Alta Bank.
After a stormy reaction from the public, EPS announced that the claims that the citizens of Serbia will be harmed due to the switch to billing are incorrect electricity through the current accounts of commercial banks and appealed to citizens not to fall for falsehoods that are "exclusively politically motivated".
"We repeat that this transition has no consequences for customers. In the interest of the public, we point out that the commissions that customers pay to their banks, the Post Office or other financial institutions when they pay electricity bills, will not and cannot go to the benefit of the banks with which EPS operates, among other things Alta Bank. Every citizen can decide in what way, through which bank they will pay the bill", stated in the EPS announcement published by Radio-television of Serbia.
What are the commissions?
However, in its announcement, EPS stated how short-lived the state enterprise will be, and how much the bank will benefit from such an arrangement.
According to the calculations of "Radar", the annual income of Matsura Alta banka based only on the deal with EPS could increase by more than 15 million euros.
"And that's assuming that he keeps a commission of 50 dinars for himself from each payment for electricity, which is roughly the amount paid for similar payments in most banks. When this is multiplied by about three million electricity meters in Serbia, the figure is 150 million dinars per month. Annually, this is an additional income for Alta banka of 1,8 billion dinars or 15,3 million euros. And for that much less money, it will end up in EPS's accounts," writes economic journalist Milan ฤulibrk.
