These two films, everywhere in the world, filled cinema halls for the first time since the beginning of the covid pandemic. "Barby" earned $155 million in its first week in US theaters, and "Oppenheimer" earned $80,5 million.
They premiered on the same day, which movie studios avoid. However, it turned out that this time the blockbusters helped each other.
According to many, they were most helped by the "Barbieheimer" meme that has been circulating the world since last month, but also by Tom Cruise because he announced on social networks that he will watch both films.
Analysts attribute such a great response that the campaigns for these two films had in the public not only to the excellent cast and famous names of the directors - Greta Gerwig has gained an outstanding reputation in recent years, while Christopher Nolan is considered one of the greatest directors of today - but also to outstanding marketing and timing.
Producers and distributors realized that it was a good time to release both films in the middle of the year in order to meet the commercial targets, but also to have time for the awards by the end of the year.
According to CNN, given that production is at a standstill due to a strike by Hollywood artists, these two films could be the last big blockbusters for a long time.
In Serbia, the screening of these two films began on the same day.
From the premiere on July 20 until today, according to Blitz Film, the distributor of the movie "Barby", it was seen by a spectacular 60315 viewers, and earned as much as 32 million dinars. Since the beginning of corona, this is the biggest opening of a film in Serbia.
"Oppenheimer" filled every cinema hall in Serbia and Montenegro to the last seat, according to "Taramount Film", which is its distributor. Tickets were sold out several days in advance, so in the first four days, he earned over 19 million dinars and was seen by slightly more than 28 spectators.
