The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučič, pardoned the four suspects for the attack on the AV student in January of this year, when they broke her jaw with batons not far from the premises of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) in Novi Sad, according to the response of the Basic Court in Novi Sad to the portal "today".
"On July 2, the Ministry of Justice submitted to the Basic Court in Novi Sad the decision of the President of the Republic of Serbia on pardon, by which the defendant KS (30) from Sremski Karlovac was acquitted of criminal prosecution for the crimes of grievous bodily harm and violent behavior," they state in the court.
The defendant RD (22) from Novi Sad was acquitted of criminal prosecution for the crimes of grievous bodily harm and violent behavior, BN (22) from Novi Sad was acquitted of criminal prosecution for the same criminal acts, as was the defendant DN (22) from Novi Sad.
"Taking into account the above, the criminal non-trial panel of the Basic Court in Novi Sad on July 03, 2025 passed a decision by which the measure of the prohibition against leaving the apartment with the application of electronic surveillance is lifted against the defendant DN (22) from Novi Sad. Against the said decision, the parties have the right to appeal to the High Court in Novi Sad. Given the aforementioned decision of the President of the Republic on the pardon, the case files will be submitted to the judge handling the case for competent action", they conclude in to the court.
Aleksić: Vučić made a decision on pardoning
President People's Movement of Serbia (NPS) and MP Miroslav Aleksic said on Thursday (July 3) that Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić made a decision to pardon four activists of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) who were accused of beat up several students, one of whom had a female student's jaw broken with a baseball bat.
"KukAVica made a decision to pardon four thugs who broke a girl's jaw in Novi Sad," stated Aleksić on the X social network.
He added that Vučić "yesterday made a decision in pardoning 4 accused persons for crimes from Article 344 paragraph 1, 121 paragraph 1 and 344 paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code".
According to the president of the National Movement of Serbia, "the acting judge Vukmirović Mara was returned today from her vacation in order to issue a decision on the suspension of the criminal proceedings against the 'SNS hero'".
What are SNS activists accused of?
In the night between January 27 and 28, four activists of the Serbian Progressive Party first attacked two students who were pasting stickers near the premises of that party in Novi Sad, and then attacked another group of students in another part of the city. On that occasion, they broke a student's jaw with a baseball bat.
The following morning, SNS President Miloš Vučević resigned as Prime Minister of Serbia. The mayor of Novi Sad, Milan Đurić, also submitted his resignation.
Accused activists of the ruling party SK (30), ND (22), NB (22) and DR (22) are charged with inflicting serious bodily injuries and violent behavior in complicity.
The prosecution requested a single sentence of three years in prison for two defendants, while a single sentence of two and a half years was requested for the third and fourth defendants.
The defendants denied their guilt. By the way, both the president of Serbia and the president of the Serbian Progressive Party called the defendants heroes on several occasions.
The trial of the accused has already been postponed twice. The first time with the justification of one of the accused, who he brought from the Infectious Diseases Clinic of the Clinical Center of Vojvodina, because of stomach problems. The second time, the defense requested the disqualification of the acting judge, with the explanation that she allegedly supported the student protests. It was also requested that the president of all Novi Sad courts be disqualified, as well as that the case be transferred to Belgrade.
As the injured party's lawyer Srđan Hromiš told journalists after the second postponement, they believe that this request is aimed at delaying and obstructing the proceedings.
