Representatives of the association "Ne damo Jadar" Zlatko Kokanović and Nebojša Petković announced that they stayed at the Security Information Agency (BIA) for only a few minutes today, where they were invited to warn them that the blockades announced after the protest against lithium mining are illegal and to be prepared to bear the consequences.
"They didn't ask us or tell us anything else," Petković stated in a joint message with Kokanović on the Facebook page of the "Ne damo Jadar" association.
He also said that they are convinced that informing the public about the invitation saved them from being detained for several hours, as was the case with other citizens who were detained for protesting.
Petković said that they are organizing a peaceful protest tonight at Terazije, in Belgrade, from 19:XNUMX. He reminded that they had organized blockades before, and said that they had no intention of breaking into institutions.
He warned that any incident that would happen would be "on their responsibility", because "elements" who would do this could be introduced into the gathering.
Kokanović stated that a large number of lawyers contacted them and offered legal assistance and invited citizens to contact the association "Ne davimo Belgrade" and the "Union of Ecological Associations of Serbia" if they have problems due to the protest, writes N1.
Kokanović: Our goal is not to cause any disturbances
The protest due to the announcement of the opening of the lithium mine in the Jadra valley and the mining company "Rio Tinto" will be held today at 19:40 at Terazije in Belgrade, organized by environmental associations from Serbia. Those associations are organizing the protest on the day of the expiration of the XNUMX-day deadline, which they set for the Serbian government to adopt the law on the permanent ban on geological research and exploitation of lithium and boron in Serbia.
Kokanović said earlier today that everything is ready for the protest, that they have enough security guards, because they received announcements that elements will be thrown in. "We suggested the police to take care of it, because we are organizing a peaceful protest." Our goal is not to cause any riots, nor to cause any chaos in the country," he emphasized.
"Yesterday, when I left home, I said goodbye to my children, my wife, my mother and I said that I will be back." In any case, I don't know how - that is, whether they will bring me, whether I will return, it doesn't matter. "Mostly, I will return home no matter what, so I said that I will not embarrass them," said Kokanović.
