Protests i commemorative gatherings are held on Monday (August 4) evening in several cities in Serbia.
In Belgrade, citizens visit officials, in Novi Sad a commemoration was held on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the operation "storm”, and the people of Subotica were drawn to the streets by the visit of director Dragoslav Bokan.
Belgrade: A minute of silence for the victims of the "Storm" and a visit to officials
The people of Belgrade are also on a protest walk tonight under the slogan "Justice sleeps, you won't" and are visiting the addresses of several officials and people close to the authorities.
Citizens gathered in local Belgrade assemblies visited the address where the acting director of the Belgrade Public Utility Company "Gradska čistoća" Marko Popadić lives.
They recalled his statements "that the rain soaks the trees and then the trees fall", his attack on KTV journalists, as well as the affair on the purchase of a tablet computer and many others, and the death of a city cleaning worker, reported FoNet's reporter.
Citizens had previously blocked the intersection of Bulevar Kralja Aleksandar and Rooseveltova Street and paid their respects to the victims of the Croatian military-police action "Storm" with a minute of silence.
Marko Bataković from the Zvezdara Citizens' Association told N1 that the gathered will visit the addresses where the director of the Public Utility Company "Gradska čistoća" Marko Popadić, the brother of the President of the Serbian Parliament Igor Brnabić, allegedly lives, and then to the address where the Prime Minister of Serbia Đuro Macut allegedly lives.
The crowd shouts "SNS mafia" and "Investigation then prison".
Commemoration in Novi Sad
The gathering called "30 years - we remember", which on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the operation "storm” organized by Novi Sad students in the blockade, started at 20 pm at the intersection near the Futoška market in Novi Sad.
"We do not forget crimes without punishment. Never again, no one again," said the students in the invitation to the commemorative meeting.
A representative of the students addressed those gathered at the Futoška market.
"For both sides, the people were just a calculation. Croats are proud of this, and this regime is abusing it for its own benefit. The abuse of the victims must stop, we do not remember the victims as numbers, we remember them as people of flesh and blood, as people who had dreams. We remember the victims of the 'Storm' and we will not allow this kind of history to repeat itself," said the gathering.
After the speech, the students called on the citizens to stay at the intersection near Futoška pijaca and block it.
They first gathered at the campus of the University of Novi Sad, and then headed in silence towards the intersection near the Futoška market.
The student commemoration was joined by the Citizens' Association of Sremski Karlovci.
"We will join the students and all people with a clean heart and face to commemorate the victims of the 'Storm' together," the statement concluded.
They also reminded that on Sunday, August 3, the 30th anniversary of this action in Sremski Karlovci was marked. This event was attended by the highest state officials.
"We witnessed how one of the most terrible sufferings of the Serbian people was shamelessly turned into a daily political circus yesterday. Bus convoys and the abuse of thousands of existentially endangered people completely desecrated this sacred memorial, and the speakers hypocritically vulturated their own victims," they state.
The people of Subotica against the visit of Dragoslav Bokan
Hundreds of citizens gathered in Subotica in front of the City Hall, as a sign of protest against the arrival of the director and commander of the paramilitary formation during the wars of the 1990s, Dragoslav Bokan, to mark the "Storm" action.
The police do not allow the people of Subotica to approach the City Hall. Those gathered blow their whistles, shout "whoa" to the police and say that they are "protecting war crimes", the portal N1 reported.
They carry banners "Whoever commanded the 'Eagles' has nothing to look for among people", "This is a city of coexistence, not a mouthpiece of extremism", "We do not agree that history is retold by ideologues of war", "Bokan does not represent victims, but an ideology of hatred, his presence is an insult".
A group of Subotica citizens previously addressed the public, institutions and city authorities regarding the "shameful decision to present Dragoslav Bokan, an ideologue, warmonger and promoter of political extremism, as the main guest and speaker at the commemoration of the anniversary of 'The Storm', one of the most tragic days in the history of the Serbian people".
"Cacak will definitely not stop"
The citizens of Čačak started blocking the roundabout near the "Morava" hotel this evening around 19:XNUMX, and then a protest walk was held, which ended on the plateau in front of the Čačak gymnasium, Nova reporter reported.
Citizens walked through the central city streets. They passed by the premises of the Serbian Progressive Party, where the riot police were stationed. There were no incidents.
"Čačak will certainly not stop. This is one of a series of protest walks where Čačak shows that it does not allow this regime to do what it is doing and that it wants to live in a free state. Čačak is crying out to be free," said one citizen and said that the protests in Čačak will continue.
"Čačak will organize a protest twice a week between 19:21 and XNUMX:XNUMX. The citizens' agreement is that we will continue the protest walks on Friday," he said.
