Alternative for Germany convincingly won on today's elections in Saxony-Anhalt with 44,5 percent of the votes won, which is almost 24 percent more than in the 2021 elections, exit polls showed.
"We have written history in this province," AfD leading candidate Ulrich Sigmund told ARD, as reported by DW.
He added that he extends his hand to all other political forces, but only to those who are ready to implement a clear political turn with him.
Great turnout
The turnout in the provincial elections in Saxony-Anhalt was 80 percent, according to ZDF data.
Far behind the AfD is the CDU. Provincial Prime Minister Sven Schulze's party won a historically low 18,5 percent of the vote. That's a big drop compared to the 2021 provincial election, in which the CDU, led by longtime prime minister Rainer Hazelloff, won by a landslide with 37,1 percent of the vote.
According to the projection, the third strongest party is the Left with 9,5 percent of the vote, which remains below its worst result in Saxony-Anhalt, which was 11 percent.
