US President Donald Trump released an "address" via video following the US and Israeli strikes on Iran. Those about eight minutes of speech confused the connoisseurs of the occasion more. rather than providing an explanation of America's goals
Trump spoke about "major combat operations" and called on the citizens of Iran to "take power" after the action was over.
"This will probably be your only chance for generations," he said. "You've asked for American help for years and never got it. No president was prepared for what I'm doing tonight. Now you have a president who gives you what you want, let's see your response."
What is the goal?
However, given that US officials have always ruled out the possibility of a ground invasion - and there are no signs of such a thing even now - it is unclear whether Trump's goal is regime change at all.
"There are almost no successful examples of regime change by aerial bombardment in modern history," writes veteran journalist David Sanger. New York Times and a White House correspondent.
He particularly marvels at Trump's call for Iran's powerful Revolutionary Guard to "lay down its arms" or face death.
It is unclear, Sanger writes, to whom the fighters would surrender in the first place, who would take them prisoner or guarantee them the "total immunity" that Trump promises. "It is possible that that statement was only meant to sow the worm of doubt among the officers that the government will fall", analyzes the journalist.
Many Democratic senators have already criticized Trump's order for new strikes on Iran and his statements as a "dangerous adventure" he is taking the United States into.

Information from the field
For now, there is no information from the field that any rebellion is being prepared in Iran. The regime there suppressed the last wave of protests in blood at the beginning of the year, when more than five thousand people were killed.
However, Trump also indicated the direct intention of these attacks in his speech. According to Trump, the Israeli strikes are focusing on Iran's long-range surface-to-surface missile depots, while US forces will primarily target Iran's nuclear facilities as well as targets associated with the Revolutionary Guard.
Multiple security sources in Israel said for The New York Times that the idea was to target the heads of the regime in the first wave, while there is a surprise effect.
Evidence
So far, no American service has found evidence that Iran poses a threat to America or is preparing any attacks in that direction.
Just two days ago, talks were held in Geneva in which Iran offered to stop stockpiling enriched uranium, but not to give up enrichment altogether.
The top of the Pentagon is counting on more extensive attacks than last year. For these purposes, since the beginning of the year, Trump has ordered two large aircraft carriers with about fifty aircraft, as well as destroyers, to arrive in the region.
However, it is very possible that they will continue with these supposedly "preventive" strikes.
