Close to 27 tons marijuana was seized on Thursday (February 5) by the police in North Macedonia, which is the largest seizure of that intoxicating substance in the history of that country.
The Police of North Macedonia is in Skopje seized ten tons of marijuana in the area of the former OHIS industrial complex, where "Alfafarm DOO Skopje" is registered. The second seizure was made in the Strumica region.
The police action lasted throughout the day on February 5, Macedonian media reported.
The media announced that late on Thursday afternoon a dozen vans, five trucks, police and customs vehicles entered the premises of the former OHIS factory.
Macedonian institutions have not released official details, explaining that the operation is still ongoing.
Investigators suspect that large amounts of production ended up on the black market, and suspicious changes in the company's ownership structure were noticed just days before drug seizures in Serbia.
Connection with confiscation in Serbia
The record seizure in North Macedonia is connected with the event from Serbia, when on January 29, in the village of Konjuh near Kruševac, on the estate of local businessman and SNS official Radet Spasojević found five tons of the same drug.
At the center of the investigation in North Macedonia is the trading company "Alfafarm DOO Skopje", registered in 2023 with the activity of growing and processing herbs, aromatic and medicinal plants for pharmaceutical purposes.
According to data from the Central Register, the company has share capital of around 529.000 euros and has several co-owners, all of whom are from Kruševac. The change in the ownership structure occurred immediately before the seizure of five tons in Serbia, when DS with an address in Vienna came out of co-ownership.
The Prime Minister announced
The Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Hristijan Mickoski, announced on Thursday evening that the Ministry of the Interior will come out with seized dozens of tons of drugs that were found to be illegally placed on the market or illegally stored.
"I expect that the Ministry of Internal Affairs will come out with tens of tons, not a few tons, but tens of tons of this kind of illegal money, i.e. illegal substances, drugs, in this case marijuana, which are currently in warehouses in Macedonia or, in some way, there were connections between certain legal entities, not only in the country, but also outside the country, which were found to have been illegally put into circulation, but also illegally stored," stressed Mickoski, as a guest on the MRT news show.
In Serbia, five people are suspected because of the marijuana found in Konjuh, two of whom are still unavailable to law enforcement authorities. They are charged with unauthorized production and distribution of narcotic drugs.
