It is estimated that around 500.000 people travel from the left to the right bank of the river every day. The affected bridge facilitated the movement of troops and the logistics of military supplies for groups of Ukrainian armed forces in the Donbass. Due to the resulting damage, kilometer-long traffic jams were formed in the city.
Before the latest attack on the bridge, Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko held a session of the city's security council, assessing the situation in Kyiv as "very dramatic." Until now, the main concern of the residents of Kyiv was the upcoming winter with electricity restrictions.
The situation is also difficult in the rest of the country
Earlier on Friday, one person was killed and two others were injured in a Russian drone strike that caused a fire on the upper floors of an apartment building.
In the northeastern city of Kharkiv, Ukraine's second largest city, two people were killed and 32 injured in a bomb attack, the regional governor said.

European Commissioner Hadja Lahbib appealed to Russia to provide humanitarian aid to civilians in the occupied Ukrainian city of Oleshki. She pointed out that the situation there is "terrifying". "Civilians are under siege by Russian forces, without access to food, medicine, clean water and basic care. This is unacceptable," Lahbib said.
A former resident of the town, quoted by AFP, said there was no more flour to make bread and that in the early days people ate pigeons, but now even they are hard to find.
