Ukraine announced on Tuesday that for the second time in a little more than a week, she hit one of the biggest ruskih satellite communications centers, while Kiev is stepping up long-range drone strikes to pressure the Kremlin to end the four-year war.
The Dubna satellite communications center north of Moscow, about 500 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, is used to gather intelligence and coordinate Russian armed forces fighting in Ukraine, the president said. Volodymyr Zelensky, reported by CNN.
Russia has not confirmed that the Dubna communications center was hit, but Moscow Oblast Governor Andrei Vorobyov said a drone hit an "administrative building" in the city, but no casualties were reported.
Vorobyov also said a six-month-old baby died on Tuesday after a drone crashed into a house in Yegoryevsk, southeast of Moscow, trapping people under the rubble. Rescuers pulled out two adults and two children, but the baby died on the way to the hospital, Vorobyov said on his Telegram channel.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said Russian air defenses had shot down more than 60 drones after multiple waves of drones were launched toward the Russian capital starting Monday night. In total, the Russian Ministry of Defense claims to have intercepted or destroyed 419 drones.
Ukraine is increasing pressure on the Kremlin by striking deeper into Russian territory, primarily targeting oil refineries, but also by carrying out large-scale drone strikes in the Russian capital and St. Petersburg. Discontent among some Russians is growing as the war creeps closer to their doorstep, and last week, Zelensky announced a 40-day operation aimed at "forcing" Russia to end the war.
This is the second time Kiev has claimed to have hit the Dubna satellite communications center after the Ukrainian military said on June 22 that it had hit the facility. Russia's state news agency TASS reported it was under "massive drone attack" during the incident, but said communications and television broadcasts were unaffected and no personnel were injured.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov sharply criticized Kiev for the attack in the Moscow region, telling reporters on Tuesday that "civilians are suffering, children are dying."
