As Axios reports, SAD i Iran have reached an agreement on a 60-day memorandum of understanding, aimed at extending the current ceasefire and beginning negotiations on Iran's nuclear program. The agreement is still awaiting US President Donald Trump's approval.
According to media reports, the alleged agreement could open a passage through The Strait of Hormuz. The US would lift the embargo and grant waivers from sanctions so Iran could continue selling oil.
However, the Iranian news agency Tasnim denies these allegations.
Tensions are continuing with alternating attacks - the US military shot down three Iranian drones, which is why the Revolutionary Guard targeted the US military base in that region. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant announced new sanctions on Iran.
Since the initial US-Iran truce took effect on April 8, Trump has repeatedly suggested that the two sides have reached an agreement, but so far there have been no concrete results.

What has happened so far?
The US and Israel attacked Iran on February 28, 2026. The first strike killed Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, and Iran then launched numerous rockets and drones at Israel and the Persian Gulf countries where US military bases are located. The war also led to the renewal of the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Thousands of people have died in Iran and Lebanon, dozens of victims in Israel and the Gulf Arab states, and millions of people have been displaced throughout the region. The Strait of Hormuz, through which a fifth of the world's liquefied natural gas and oil transport passes, has been blocked, which has caused real confusion on the global market and fuel shortages.
The United States and Iran reached a cease-fire agreement in early April that included Israel. In the following weeks, there were more reports of ceasefire violations.
