Protests by farmers across the country Greek are entering a new phase, with new ones announced blockade key infrastructure and roads, writes the newspaper "Katimerini".
The largest traffic barricades were placed along the central road network, including parts of the Athens-Thessalonica national road, the Egnatia, Ionia and Olympia highways, as well as at the Evzoni and Niki border crossings to North Macedonia, as well as Promachonas and Exohio to Bulgaria.
The Supreme Court ordered the initiation of ex officio criminal prosecution against the organizers of illegal actions during the protest, with the possibility of on-the-spot arrest.
On Saturday, a national meeting of representatives of the blockades will be held in Nicaea near Larisa, where the next steps and the harmonization of the list of demands will be discussed.
Today, the focus of the protest is expected to be the cargo terminal of the port of Volos, where farmers from Thessaly are planning a blockade.
On the Rio-Antirio bridge, farmers from Aitoloakarnania and Achaia are preparing protests, including the opening of toll booths for several hours.
Blockades across Greece
Blockades continue on the Antirio-Ioannina highway, as well as on the Mornos and Evinos bridges and on the Amvrakia road.
In the Achaia region, barricades have been set up at several points, including the Patra-Pirgus and Patra-Corinth highways, diverting traffic to local roads.
Similar blockades exist in Ilija.
The national highway Athens-Lamia is still closed at four key points - in Bralo, Atalanti, Kastro and Tiwa, which causes major diversions to regional and old road routes in the length of several tens of kilometers.
Blockades are also being strengthened in northern Evia, while farmers are gathering in Halkida to coordinate further actions.
In Thessaly, protests continue at the existing checkpoints on the E65 highway, near Kardica and Trikala, with the daily increase in the number of tractors and the support of local organizations.
In the area of Thessaloniki, farmers remain at the blockade in Malgari, despite the intervention of the prosecutor.
In Crete, protesters hold the building of the Decentralized Administration in Heraklion for the third day in a row, where farmers from several areas stay overnight, with the announcement of new decisions of the Coordination Committee on the continuation of the protest.
Protests and blockades will continue across the country, while farmers announce further intensification of their activities, the aforementioned newspaper writes.
The main demands of farmers are compensation, reduction of production costs and cheaper oil, as well as farm subsidies.
Dissatisfaction is growing due to years of falsification of data on land and the number of livestock to obtain European funds, which was pointed out by European prosecutors this year.
