Daniela Klette (65) was arrested in the middle of Berlin, the prosecutor's office confirmed to SPIEGEL. She did not resist arrest.
She allegedly used an Italian passport, but her fingerprints gave her away. She was found in a building in the hipster district of Kreuzberg, and ammunition was also found in the apartment.
Klete was part of the famous trio, which also included Ernst-Volker Staub and Burkhard Garweg. They made up the last generation of the Red Army Faction (RAF), a left-wing terrorist group that was feared and feared in Germany for decades.
That trio kept a low profile for a full three decades. They are accused of one attempted murder and numerous robberies with which they financed their life in the underground.
Thick blood trail
But the generations of the RAF before them were far more dangerous. The RAF is credited with a total of 33 murders and over two hundred injuries from the XNUMXs to the early XNUMXs.
Thus, in 1977, they killed the chief state prosecutor, Siegfried Bubak, and twelve years later, the head of Deutsche Bank, Alfred Herrhausen, was killed in an explosive attack.
The terrorist group, which saw itself as a communist, anti-imperialist urban guerrilla, disbanded in 1998 and was no longer behind crimes.
They supported themselves by robbery.
Investigators believe Klette, Staub and Garweg then embarked on a series of robberies of supermarkets and cash-strapped vehicles to survive on the run.
Earlier this month, investigators launched a warrant operation for the third time - after 2016 and 2020 - to catch the RAF "retirees", as the trio are called.
There are arrest warrants against all three, and Klete is the only one who has been arrested, for now.
