According to the Independent, it was a sign that he had overcome possible complications from Friday's respiratory crisis and that his breathing was improving as he recovered from pneumonia.
The pope remains on high-flow supplemental oxygen after a coughing problem on Friday that sparked fears of another lung infection.
Doctors said in a late Sunday report that Pope Francis remained stable, but reiterated the complexity of his overall condition and kept the prognosis cautious, indicating he was still not out of danger.
The Pope has been receiving treatment in Rome's Gemelli Hospital since February 14.
