Gabriel's father is Yves Attal, a Jew of Tunisian origin, a lawyer and film producer, and his mother, Marie de Couris, from Ukraine on her father's side, is of the Orthodox faith, so her children - Gabriel and his three sisters - were baptized Orthodox. On his mother's side, he also traces his roots to the French nobility. She also tried her hand as a film producer, but also as a real estate agent.

Gabriel Atal already joined the Socialist Party as a high school student, but in 2017 he approached Macron, who founded the "Republic on the Move" party.
He graduated from the Alsasien private school, which is attended by the children of public figures from politics and art in Paris in the sixth arrondissement. Atal told how he was a victim of violence at school, and after graduation, he went to the prestigious University of Science in Pau and has a master's degree in public affairs.
