U Mexican a mysterious avenger appeared in the federal state of Jalisco, whom the citizens called "Batman from Lagos de Morena" after, according to local media, he caught at least five suspected motorcycle thieves in just ten days and left them tied to poles.
It all started in mid-June in the city of Lagos de Moreno, where residents have reported an increase in motorcycle thefts in recent months and expressed dissatisfaction with police work. According to reports, the unidentified man began tracking down the suspected thieves, overpowering them, tying them with industrial tape to street light poles and leaving motorcycles he claimed were stolen next to them.
The word "ratero" ("thief" in Spanish) was written on the faces of the bound men with a marker, and some had mustaches and cat's whiskers drawn on them, which is why users of social networks called the mysterious avenger "Batman". In some cases, messages were left above the suspects with a description of the alleged thefts.
Although part of the public on social networks praised his moves, the Mexican authorities have a completely different attitude.
The Secretary of Security of the state of Jalisco, Juan Pablo Hernandez, announced that the police treat people found tied to the poles as victims of attacks, regardless of the suspicion that they participated in thefts. A manhunt has been launched for the mysterious vigilante, and investigators have also identified two vehicles that they believe may be connected to these cases.
The case has attracted a lot of attention because it illustrates the security situation in certain parts of Mexico, where organized crime and a high rate of theft often lead to citizens trying to administer justice themselves. Experts, however, warn that such cases can lead to serious abuses and further escalation of violence, regardless of the motives of the perpetrators.
