European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos she declared that today (July 14) is "Super Tuesday" for expansion European Union (EU), because for the first time in more than two decades, four intergovernmental conferences are held on the same day.
"Our leading four candidates - Ukraine, Moldova, Albania and Montenegro are taking big steps forward," Marta Koss posted on the X Network.
She reminded that the EU is opening Cluster 6 with Ukraine and Moldova, which covers areas such as defense and security, where the arguments for their EU membership are particularly strong.
Albania will close its first chapters, and Montenegro is firmly in the final phase of negotiations with 18 out of 33 chapters closed.
"Today's momentum must now be converted into results on the field," said Marta Kos.
During the recent debate in the European Parliament on Serbia, she stated that the European Commission recommends the opening of Cluster 3 in negotiations with Serbia, despite all the problems the country faces on the European path, which concern the rule of law and democracy.
"We don't want to see that Serbia "It's lagging behind," she added.
The opening of Cluster 3 with Serbia, however, was opposed by eight of the 27 EU member states, so the fifth intergovernmental conference in Brussels on July 14 was not organized.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Marko Đurić, repeated today, as a guest on the RTS program, the position that Serbia has fulfilled the obligations necessary for the opening of Cluster 3 and has done everything within its power, adding that the European Commission has supported this step for years.
