"I want to hope that this was not a Freudian slip." I hope that this was said by accident, that instead of 'Serbian' you said 'American' relations, I hope that Serbia has its own policy and will implement a nationally oriented policy," said Zaharova.
"People were shocked, they couldn't believe their eyes," she repeated and reminded that in the initial stage, in 2022 and 2023, Serbian diplomats and delegations in international organizations voted against Russia.
"That happened. I remember that the Serbian delegation even left the hall at the UN Human Rights Council when Lavrov was speaking via video call, because Geneva could not ensure the landing of his plane", emphasized Zakharova and repeated that she saw how the Serbian delegation left the hall during the session at that moment when the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia was speaking.
"I am that minister of the same Russia that has always protected Serbia." Even then, we couldn't believe our eyes, and after that we noticed that Serbia started to change its attitude and stopped voting against Russia," Zakharova said.
"The only real decision of the Serbian leadership was to apologize to the Serbs"
Zakharova said that she then saw a different approach in 2024, and then "suddenly 2025 starts with a vote against Russia."
"It seems to me that the only real decision of the Serbian leadership was to apologize to its own people, to the Serbs for whom it was as much a shock as it was for the Russians, and say that it was a mistake. I hope that this mistake, as characterized by the leadership of Serbia, will be a good lesson that you must not forget who is your true friend and must not forget who always supported you and even saved you," she emphasized.
Zakharova also announced that Russia's position on Kosovo will not change, because no one has changed or annulled UN Resolution 1244, nor in Russia is it known about Kosovo from American newspapers, but from "the history of Serbia, the history of Yugoslavia, the history of the Serbian people, the history of the Balkans".
"Our position was formed on the basis of knowledge of real facts, not political conclusions, not geostrategic plans, but from knowledge of history and facts," Zaharova concluded.
