Two people are dead after a small plane tried to land on Interstate 75 in southwest Florida and collided with a vehicle.
The crash happened near Pine Ridge Road in Collier County.
Brianna Walker saw the wing of the plane hit the car in front of hers.
"Seconds separated us from the car in front of us." "The wing of the plane crushed that car," Walker said. She and her friend saw the plane approaching the highway seconds before impact, so they stopped the vehicle.
"He was inches above us, swerved to the right and skidded down the highway."
She says that the explosion of the plane followed with a loud bang, and parts flew across the highway.
"It looked like a movie." We were seconds away from death."
The Federal Aviation Administration said there were five people on the plane and that the incident happened around 15 p.m. local time.
Collier County Sheriff Adam Fisher confirmed that two people were killed, but did not say whether they were passengers on the plane or someone on the highway.
According to the Flytower website, the plane is owned by Hop-a-Jet. It took off from Columbus, Ohio at about 13 p.m. from Columbus, Ohio and was scheduled to land in Naples, Florida at 15.12:XNUMX p.m., before flying to Fort Lauderdale.
Hop-a-Jet did not respond to a request for comment.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate what happened.
