At first glance, it looks like an American warship at sea. Only then was the sand noticed. More than 1.600 kilometers from the nearest coast, hundreds of kilometers from any major city, deep in the western desert Kine, there is something resembling a life-size replica of the Arleigh Burke-class American destroyer, CNN writes.
The facility is strikingly reminiscent of the USS Fitzgerald destroyer. Both are about 155 meters long, and the Chinese replica features elements characteristic of American destroyers: a helicopter platform at the stern, cells for vertical launch of guided weapons, such as Tomahawk cruise missiles, a command bridge and a cannon at the bow.
Satellite images analyzed by the British "Telegraph" reveal that a 3D model of the American destroyer of the "Arley Burke" class was under construction this February. Three months later, the ship appears to be almost completely finished. But it is 2.700 kilometers from the nearest water, so it is unlikely that it will ever set sail. Instead, as the "Telegraph" writes, it is part of China's tactics in preparation for a possible war against of Taiwan and America, if they come to the rescue.
The three-dimensional model, completed in less than six months, contains many elements of the original ship, including a complete mast and even part of the radar equipment. Since the models are almost identical to American warships, China can use them to practice missile attacks with greater precision, the newspaper said.
Taiwan Presidential Offices
China, it added, not only makes replicas of US warships but also models of fighter jets, naval bases and Taiwan's presidential office and key government buildings.
China has thus built a 280-kilometer-long tunnel that connects various replicas of Taiwan's government buildings in preparation for a scenario in which the island's leaders try to escape through underground passages.
