Leader of the Independent Democratic Party of Serbia (SDSS) Milorad Pupovac he was elected in the Croatian Parliament as the chairman of the Committee for Human Rights and the Rights of National Minorities, thus completing the composition of all its working bodies in the Croatian Parliament, writes Index.hr.
Pupovac was elected with 109 votes "for", 20 "against" and one abstention.
Along with the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), opposition MPs also voted for him, among them the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Mozeme, but not the MPs of the Homeland Movement (DP), which together with the HDZ form the parliamentary majority.
The DP previously announced that it could dissolve the coalition if Pupovac is elected as the President of the Committee.
Pupovac was formally proposed as the President of the Committee by the Club of National Minorities, and his choice divided both the representatives of the ruling majority and the opposition.
The SDP Club announced that it will support the proposal of the Club of National Minorities, because it respects the fact that for more than 20 years that Club proposed the president of that Committee.
