Since the fire that broke out in Vjesnik's solitaire in Zagreb engulfed several floors and the roof, a large number of firefighters were involved in extinguishing it. At the time of the fire, according to current information, there was no one in the building. 93 firefighters with 30 vehicles are still fighting the fire.
"The fire is still active and is spreading through structural openings. Due to the increased danger, firefighters have been withdrawn from the interior," announced the City's Public Fire Station Zagreb.
Just one citizen tip
Index reports that the damage to the building is total.
"The damage is great. Despite the fact that most of the building was abandoned, the rooms inside are full of equipment and papers. We received a report around 23 p.m. Interestingly, there was only one report from citizens. Otherwise, we always receive a lot of reports in the case of large fires," said Siniša Jembrich, commander of the Public Fire Service of the City of Zagreb and added:
"As soon as we saw the open flames, we immediately requested additional intervention. It is dangerous because, when the crews started to go out and put out the fire, we saw that the fire started to appear on the lower floors, even on the ground floor, which means that it spread through the ventilations."
All the firefighters of the city of Zagreb are on this fire, and it is assumed that it will be extinguished during the day, but it will take some time, Jembrich added.
