U Albania several thousand people protested against a billion-dollar luxury construction project, which is associated with Jared Kushner, brother-in-law Donald Trump. A large number of people gathered in the capital Tirana on Tuesday with placards bearing slogans such as "Albania is not for sale". The main demand of the demonstrators is the suspension of the resort construction project, the German "Spiegel" reports.
The reason for dissatisfaction is concern for the environment and suspicion of corruption.
The posters during the demonstration could also read "Ivanka, go home" - which is an allusion to Kushner's wife Ivanka Trump, the daughter of US President Donald Trump.
Previously, the Special Prosecutor's Office for the fight against corruption and organized crime in Albania announced that it had launched an investigation into this construction project.

"Trump Island"
Kouchner's company Atlantic Incubation Partners LLC plans to invest 1,4 billion euros in order to open a luxury resort on the Albanian island of Sazan. There used to be a military base there.
Sazan is barely six square kilometers, it is a rocky elevation in the Adriatic Sea overgrown with pines, oak blades, rosemary and lavender. It is located approximately at the height of the Italian cities of Lecce or Brindisi.
However, the inhabitants of that part of the coast in the meantime gave the island another name: Trump Island, that is, "Trump's island", reports "Spiegel".

Last year, the Albanian authorities first accelerated this project by granting Kushner the status of "strategic investor".
The Albanian government has been trying to boost its economy by developing tourism for a long time. Sazan Island was used exclusively as a military base in the past.
The Trump family has invested multiple times in luxury projects around the world. She also tried that in Belgrade, to build a luxury hotel on the site of the General Staff. Critics accuse Kushner and his wife of using Donald Trump's presidency for their own business.
