American president Donald tramp declared on Monday that SUnited States of America likely to take over the Straits of Hormuz and that they should be compensated for controlling that vital waterway.
"We will hold the strait and probably govern it. We will become the guardians." Strait. Maybe we'll call it the 'guardian angels of the Straits'. And we should be compensated for that," Trump said in a phone interview with Fox News, according to Reuters.
Control over the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil supplies, has become one of the main battlefields of the US-Iran conflict.
Iran's closure of Hormuz following the US-Israeli attacks on Iran in late February has pushed up energy prices and raised concerns about inflation globally.

"We're going to keep it. We're going to get paid to keep it -- it's going to be a lot of money," Trump said.
"We will be compensated, because other nations are very rich. They are on our side and we can't be expected to do this for no reason," Trump said.
On Saturday, Iran announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz after an "unauthorized transit" was detected.
Tehran said yesterday that passage through the Strait of Hormuz would remain suspended and that permits would be issued once "stability and peace" were restored.
