Tensions are rising at Zvezdara on Sunday morning. Activists Serbian Progressive Party they set up promotional stands at the corner of Veljko Dugošević and Zvezdarskih jelki streets.
They were at the same place on Saturday, when they quickly left after the citizens protested.
This time, SNS members came back with reinforcements. The progressives have set up several stands, and they are secured by the police, as well as units of the Police Brigade.
Residents of the surrounding streets gathered around them, chanting: "Zvezdara won't want you" and "Pack up".
Five hours after the beginning of the meeting, the eggs flew between citizens and SNS activists.
Residents of Zvezdara threw eggs at the activists, and they retaliated. Members of the police set up a cordon between the conflicting parties.
The reason why activists of the Serbian Progressive Party set up a stand at this place is not known, but citizens suspect that it is a question of collecting signatures for elections that could be called if a new government is not formed within the legal term, reports N1.
However, the law dictates that signatures for candidacy in the elections can be collected only after the elections have been officially announced. Before that, collecting signatures is considered illegal.
SNS stands also appeared on Sunday at the Cvetkova market. As one of the citizens told "Vreme", the locals were surprised to find a party stand on the way to the market on Sunday morning.
The progressives also appeared at the Kalenić market, near the building of the Vračar Municipality, where the meeting of the residents of Vračar is held today.
The stand near the Kalenić market is also secured by the police.
