Study at UNIRSM Mechanical, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Traffic Faculty can easily find a job in the profession as soon as they graduate, he writes RTS. They are looking for students of the Faculty of Mathematics from the department for teachers while they are still there at studies.
However, what about students of social sciences and humanities, students who entered the university they love, aware that they won't find a job quickly with that degree.
Political scientist on the labor market
Saška Simić, a graduate student at the Faculty of Political Sciences (FPN), tells "Vreme" that when she entered the faculty, she did not think so much about where she would get a job. She typed in what she wanted, and FPN was the only option.
However, she did not imagine that finding a job would be "this difficult" because she gained various work experiences during her studies.
"Since the end of last year, I haven't found a single job in the profession, so I lowered my expectations," says our interlocutor.
However, as someone who has practical experience in both the private and government sectors, working with non-governmental organizations, she thought the job search would go a little differently. But it wasn't like that.
From the Traffic right to the workplace
Unlike students from the Faculty of Political Sciences, students of the Faculty of Traffic do not have to worry about whether they will find a job after graduation because the need for traffic engineers in Serbia is great, according to the faculty. Already in the first year, students are given the opportunity to go on professional practice.
"I did my internship at the Accident Research Center. We have competitions that are announced, and we apply ourselves. The professors are there to guide us, to tell us if it's good for us, if maybe we should apply somewhere else, if they see us in a different light, and that's a great help," says Jana Kuljić, a student at the Faculty of Transportation.
Every year, the Faculty of Traffic enrolls 350 students, about 220 of them graduate within the deadline, and already at the end of their studies they start working in the profession, according to the faculty.
No explanation
Simić says that FPN is such a faculty that prepares students in terms of skills, such as analytical work, critical thinking, and that this is good. However, this is not something that passes through the employer in our country.
She noticed that everyone is looking for some experience, but "if no one gives me the opportunity, I don't know where I will get that experience."
She says that after she was not accepted for various internships or jobs, she did not receive any explanation why she was specifically rejected, but always some general email in which it is written that another candidate was more suitable.
"I had a job situation where, after being rejected, I asked for an answer as to why I was rejected and I never got it," says our interlocutor.
The Faculty of Civil Engineering annually receives from 200 to 400 requests for employment of young engineers from construction companies. And last year, the most popular were faculties that educate computer scientists. About 2016 people worked in this sector in 56.000, and 110.000 last year.
