In the June electricity bill, Elektroprivreda Srbije informed users that the payment account will change from this month - the money will now go to Alta Bank, owned by Davor Macura, a businessman close to SNS, Nova ekonomija reported.
EPS did not answer why the change happened, so the commission that the bank will charge is not known. It is known that in the first three months of this year, EPS collected about one hundred billion dinars from citizens and businesses.
Alta Pay has been making profits since November 2023 thanks to the cooperation with EPS. Since then, intermediaries in the electronic payment of electricity bills have been on the website of the public company, as well as on the "Bill Insight" application. According to N1, they came to this without public procurement.
The lucrative collection business is becoming even more lucrative because EPS shut down 106 cash registers for electricity collection last year - now it is done through banks or electronically.
Davor Macura, the owner of the Alta Group, with his company ABL Solvent bought the IMT business complex in New Belgrade at the end of 2021 for only 70,6 million euros. Soon, by changing the law, the state made it possible for him to get the land he only had the right to use without compensation, which at the time cost about 200 million euros.
Last summer, Matsura's company won a tender for financial services for transportation billing in Belgrade, they also received subsidies for the construction and expansion of hotels in Belgrade due to Expo. Alta banka has the exclusive right to have its counters located in police stations.
This once again confirms that, apart from the American dream, there is also a Serbian dream. You just need to know the right people. Because, Matsura started the business modestly, when in 2008 he opened the first exchange under the name Alta. And here is where it is now.
