"Despite great commitment and efforts, the conditions for the realization of the tournament in the planned time and format could not be ensured, which is why it was decided not to hold this year's edition of the tournament," reads the official statement of the tournament organizers, whose director is Đorđe Đoković, Novak Đoković's brother.
"Belgrade Open" reminds that since 2021, a total of nine professional tennis tournaments have been successfully held under different brands, including five ATP 250 tournaments, one WTA 250, one WTA 125, one ATP Challenger 125 and one ITF tournament.
"We are proud of everything that has been achieved so far and are grateful to everyone who was part of this project - above all to the partners, sponsors and the audience that gave us enormous support. The organization remains committed to the development of tennis in Serbia and will continue to work on creating the conditions for professional tournaments to be held in Belgrade again in the future," the organizers concluded in a statement.
ATP: Tennis in the OAKA basketball arena
The ATP announced that the ATP 250 tournament from Belgrade will move to Athens this year, from November 2 to 8.
It is stated that it will be played on an indoor hard surface at the OAKA Basketball Arena, a multi-purpose hall that was used during the 2004 Olympic Games.
"The ATP 250 championship is organized by an experienced team behind nine previous international tournaments in Belgrade. This new project builds on that tradition, and preparations are already well underway to ensure a top-class event in the historic city of Athens. We look forward to hosting the tennis world in Greece in November," said the organizers.
