The most decorated European coach, Zeljko Obradovic, decided to submit his irrevocable resignation from the position of head coach, at a time when Partizan has a score of 4-9 in the elite European competition and is at the very bottom of the table.
However, the Executive and Board of Directors Partizan, led by club president Osto Mijailović, decided to unanimously reject the resignation of Željko Obradović, according to the official statement on the club's website.
The withdrawal of the coach required an urgent meeting in the club and the story of his successor, but Željko's departure also opened up many other issues in Humska. Part of the fans rebelled, announced a boycott, demanded the responsibility of president Ostoja Mijailović and general manager Zoran Savić.
During the day, information appeared that Ostoja Mijailović plans to present a proposal to reject Željko Obradović's resignation (although it is irrevocable and the coach's position is quite clear), and that the club should try in every possible way to change Željko's decision and persuade him to stay on the bench, this option did not seem the most realistic, however.
The leaders of the club agreed that the legend of the club still enjoys their full confidence and that his work is not questioned for a single moment.
Considering this outcome of the meeting, it is clear that in the next hours and days the black and white will not be engaged in negotiations with the potential successor of the most decorated Euroleague coach, but rather the opposite - they will try in every way to change his decision and convince him to continue the work he started
On the occasion of the famous strategist's decision, the association of fans and fans of JSD Partizan "Nothing from Partizan, everything for Partizan", of which Obradović is an honorary member, announced. In their letter, Željko is asked to become the president of the Partizan Basketball Club if he wants to, and that the KKP administration bear responsibility.
"We are asking Željko Obradović to stay in the club. If he does not see his place on the bench of the KKP, we are willing to invite and gather all members of our numerous family to provide Željko with the position of president of the KKP, if he wants it. We appeal that the following example of the greatest among them, responsibility for the state of the club, the state of the standings and the state of the Partizan fan community, be taken by all members of the KKP administration," the letter reads.
The association of JSD Partizan fans and supporters put forward this proposal if the management fails to keep Obradović on the bench of the Belgrade team.
