U National Theatre Belgrade tonight (May 16) is the premiere of the opera Eugene Onegin Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The theater is announcing it as the first opera premiere on the Big Stage this season. It will be the fourth opera title that has enriched the repertoire of the Belgrade Opera since last October.
During that time, the Drama of the National Theater received only one new performance, as well as the Ballet. It is probably just a matter of a combination of circumstances, which should not include the fact that acting manager of the National Theater Dragoljub Bajić – member of the Opera.
Eugene Onegin is an opera based on Pushkin's verse novel of the same name. Tchaikovsky transformed it into a sumptuous musical drama, which combines strong lyrical emotion and the author's thought about man's impotence to reach the happiness he longs for.
The director of the play at the National Theater is Mario Pavle del Monaco, who is directing this for the fourth time at the National Theatre.

On October 1, the National Theater began its season with the premiere revival of Giuseppe Verdi's opera Masked ball, which was not in the repertoire for years for unknown reasons. The first version was directed by Božidar Đurović, and this renewed one by Ivana Dragutinović Maričić.

Then, in February, the premiere of Verdi's revival took place Don Carlos under the baton of the guest from Spain, maestro Sergio Alapont, while the direction of Mladen Sabljić was renewed by Ivana Dragutinović Maričić.

At the end of April, the premiere of Mozart was played on the "Raša Plaović" stage Magic flutes conducted by Stefan Zekić and directed by Mario Pavlo del Monaco, as a project of the Opera Studio of the National Theater "Borislav Popović".
And, the fourth new title in the repertoire of the Belgrade Opera is the already mentioned tonight's premiere Eugene Onegin.
