The "Belgrade Gallery Days" event brought together 18 galleries - they did what the museums of Serbia did not do on the occasion of this year's European Night of Museums, and what they haven't done in years past (more details below).
Belgrade Gallery Days start tomorrow, May 29 at noon, and will last until Sunday, May 31. Entrance to the galleries is free, and the aim of the event is to visit as many exhibitions as possible by walking through the city and participate in interesting and interactive programs.

Participating galleries are: ARTE gallery (at three locations), Arthaus, B2 gallery, BelArt gallery, Blok Gallery, DOTS gallery, 73 gallery, Haos gallery, O3one gallery, Sales gallery "Belgrade", Sanjaj gallery, ŠTAB gallery, RIMA gallery, Transformart, XVitamin and Zepter Museum gallery.
The organizer of this event is the Association of Art Galleries of Serbia (AUGS), founded in 2018 as an agency for the development and improvement of professional gallery practice, regulation of the art market and affirmation of visual culture and art.
Belgrade Gallery Days have existed since 2024, and starting this year, they will be held every last weekend of May.
This year, the organizers have prepared a special collecting challenge. Visitors will receive a specially created Art Badge at each location as a unique token of visiting a specific exhibition. The first twenty fastest collectors who collect five different badges will be awarded with the prestigious BDG/BGD Diploma and an exclusive limited edition graphic signed by our famous visual artist Aleksa Gajić.
European Museum Night
The European Night of Museums, mentioned at the beginning of the text, is a manifestation that is celebrated all over Europe on May 23. It was in Serbia, but very sporadically and not even close to what it used to look like - the museums of Serbia did not unite this year.
In 2005, Belgrade joined the community of 120 cities in the Night of Museums, and two years later it became part of the European Night of Museums.
The first Museum Night, held in 5 Belgrade museums and galleries, managed to animate more than 4.000 visitors, while in the following fourteen years that number grew to an incredible 500.000.
And then the dropout started.
This year in Belgrade, the European Night of Museums was held only in traces. Probably because of the large student gathering at Slavia on May 23, although there was no official explanation.
The National Museum of Serbia moved it to May 18, when you could attend workshops and guided tours in all its spaces until midnight.
On the occasion of the European Night of the Museum, the History Museum of Serbia exhibited Marilyn Monroe's purse the day before and the day after, as well as the two coins she kept in it while filming her last (unfinished) film. Something's Got to Give where she starred with the famous Dean Martin. It was shown as part of the exhibition "The Court and Hollywood" and aroused great interest.
And that would be more or less all that concerns the European Night of Museums in Belgrade.
Incomparably more, and one would say as befits that event, it was celebrated in Požarevac, Novi Sad, Subotica and Niš.
