The students of the School of Design, the authors of the humanitarian exhibition "DizaLica", which is currently underway, donated all the proceeds to the students in the blockade of the Faculty of Fine Arts and the Faculty of Applied Arts. They say that the exhibition was a kind of salvation for them, "we felt what we are capable of and that as artists we have power"
You may have noticed a banner with the message "We are designing a new society" during the student protests in Belgrade. The authors of this slogan are students of the School of Design in Blockade, who have just exhibited their works at the humanitarian exhibition "DizaLica", in Kafe Bar 16, Cetinjska 15a, Belgrade. The exhibition opened on April 10, and will last until the 15th.
The unique works of the students of "Diza" (which is the popular name of the School of Design, that's why the exhibition is called "DizaLica") are exhibited, such as t-shirts, umbrellas, jewelry, posters, photos, drawings... and donations from the exhibition will be directed to students in the Faculty of Fine Arts and Faculty of Applied Arts.
About love and solidarity
One of the authors, Ljubica Vasić, a 3rd grade student, says that they decided to get the best out of the current situation in society. He says that "the works are different and show in an interesting way what love and solidarity represent to different people. The inspiration is drawn from the social context, and the works depict personal angles."
He adds that "everything was done in less than two weeks, so in a very short period, and that speed made the works even more authentic - we all worked on the basis of the first inspiration."
They were inspired by the ideas of student protests, for example solidarity.
Milica Petrović, a fourth-grade student at this school, says that "solidarity is a way to tell someone 'You are not alone', 'We will do it together'. Now it is important to remind ourselves, as well as others, of the importance of empathy and solidarity. We are currently sustained by an immense amount of optimism and the fact that we entered this for a better tomorrow, as well as to support students. Our goal is to gain knowledge, but through the right values."
Milica and Ljubica emphasize that it is important for young artists to show their view of the social situation through their work and thus act in society. They add that this process affects their feelings and develops them as personalities.
"Looking back, it seems to me that the workshops inside the blocked school, as well as the preparation of the exhibition 'DizaLica', were a kind of salvation for us. They helped us connect, to deal with our own feelings. We were pleased, we felt what we are capable of and that we have power as artists," adds Ljubica Vasić.
Teachers chose ethics
Due to the complex situation at the school, the teachers of the School of Design do not want to speak publicly. They emphasize that this school has not been socially active in this way until now, but that changed in December of last year, when first the graduating students, and then the other students, expressly supported the students and entered the blockades.
The teachers, forced to choose between law and ethics, say that they then "chose ethics and decided to start the second semester with a complete suspension of classes, and to continue our daily work with the students. Until now, we have survived in the collective solely due to solidarity, and due to the incredible support of parents and students. From the beginning, we have been discussing how the students can articulate what is happening in society, the school and in the students themselves in an exhibition. The banners that our students carry during the protest have been extremely noticed by the media."
They explain that they entered into the suspension of classes because of the students, and that they, together with their parents, returned that support.
"We are talking about children who have matured rapidly in recent months and become aware that they are the ones who create a new attitude towards solidarity, sociability, aesthetics, towards the world. We thank them for returning to us the values that our generation thought were lost. This exhibition confirms that," say the teachers of the School of Design.
A spirit that must be free
Ivana Tomić, mother of a student of the School of Design, describes the exhibition as a view of society through the eyes of young artists:
"Without such a view and the feelings it evokes, our world is very gray. Young people must continue to hope, and we must not spoil their dreams. I hope that parents and the general public will see how much beauty there is in them, and feel that spirit that must remain free."

The Beldocs Documentary Film Festival came of age with a clear demand to release the activists, giving recognition to all educational and university workers.
In the frenzy of political events and dramas in Serbia, ten days ago, a spectacular multi-level event brought together academia, politics, architecture, Europe, Novi Sad, micropolitics and a top artistic event. The news that Vladan Joler, artist, professor at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad and founder of the "Share" foundation, won the Silver Lion at the Venice Biennale of Architecture resonated as if it were some kind of collective victory, or at least the promise of a good outcome.

If we want to talk about the freedom of a society, there must also be a social agreement and consensus regarding what we consider unfreedom, as well as what and what kind of boundaries we use to describe a society
