In Novi Sad tonight (May 26) the 71st Sterijino posorje, which went from being a manifestation dedicated exclusively to the works of Jovan Steria Popović, to becoming the most important theater review of domestic drama and regional theater.
According to the selection of the selector Svetislav Bulet Goncić, eight performances of different poetics and generations of authors will be presented, confirming that the theater still responds strongly to the issues of contemporary society.
Goncić pointed out that his choice this year is the result of searching for plays that not only offer top artistic ranges, but also strong communication with the audience, as well as that this year's program also includes new interpretations of domestic classics, dramatizations of literary works, contemporary dramatic texts and author's projects that deal with the issues of today's society.
Performances
The festival opens with a performance Mrs. Nola Serbian National Theater in Novi Sad.
Until June 3, the competitive selection includes My theater Belgrade's Atelje 212, Humor Center National Theater in Belgrade, Madam Minister Slovenian National Theater Maribor, Rails National Theater of the Republic of Srpska, A professional Star of the Theatre, Quiet from two to six. Hardware of the house and Why is he laughing? National Theatre Sombor.
Due to insufficient budget, there will be no usual international event at Pozorje this year of the "Circles" program. This means that this will be a festival exclusively of national drama, without foreign plays based on texts by foreign authors.
Without "Circles"
Miroslav Radonjić, director of the Sterija Theater, previously told "Vreme" that "the main reason why there will be no 'Circles' as part of the 71st Sterija Theater is the fact that the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia did not announce a competition for theater creativity for 2026. Given that we cannot count on those funds, which in the previous few years usually amounted to 5.000.000 dinars per year (excluding 2025), we had to that as responsible people we face these circumstances and adapt the program to the current financial situation".
Last year, the Ministry of Culture did announce a competition for co-financing of theater projects, but to this day it has not announced the result of that competition, and thus did not distribute the corresponding budget.
Also last year, the Provincial Government decided not to finance the program of Sterija's theater, and that of the 70th jubilee.
