Saturday at the Book Fair in Belgrade, now and then
The halls of the Belgrade Fair are empty, even though the Book Fair is under them and even though it is Saturday, the day of the largest number of visitors

In the last days of December, most theaters in the capital did not have a detailed plan for this year. They only knew the titles that they could put on the stage, if the conditions allowed them
The theaters in the capital have a plan for this year, but for now, for the sake of accuracy, it should be called a projection. Namely, at the end of December when we discussed this, some of them still did not have the approval of the Board of Directors, some of them received a letter from the Secretariat of Culture saying that they should not plan anything until further notice, some did not know the budget based on which they could plan...
In fact, only the Belgrade Drama Theater announced, as they said - "with pride", the complete repertoire for 2025.

National Theatre
Svetislav Bule Goncić, director of the National Theater, mentioned several large projects. It should be expected in Drama Casablanca on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the victory over Nazism, and Romeo and Juliet - Shakespeare's drama, which, as he noted, can only be performed when the ensemble has the appropriate division. He also announced the continuation of the National Theater's intention to stage great literary works, and that's why: Migration Crnjanski and Flaubert Madam Bovary, but also added "we'll see what we can do from that".
The ballet is very serious, Goncić said, working on auditions and engaging young people, and the plan is to return to the stage Sleeping beauties, and setting Risen shadows Svetislav Božić but in a freer version. He also announced the guest, director of the French Opera Ballet, José Martínez, who will stage the new version Don Quixote.
Gomcić announced for the Opera Pearl hunter Georges Bizet.
As far as "Vremen" knows, these titles refer to the first half of the year, because the Board of Directors of the National Theater will only decide on the annual repertoire in January.
Atelier 212
Gordana Goncić, acting director of "Ateljea 212", tells the portal "Vremena" that "the repertoire for 2025 is actually a prelude to the big jubilee - 70 years of our theater's existence, which we will celebrate in 2026."
The year will begin with the fifth "Muci's Days" Theater Festival (January 21 to 25). It will be, says Gordana Goncić, "a theatrical gathering of the theater, dedicated to Ljubomir Muci Drškić, one of the best directors of the former Yugoslavia and the long-time manager of Atelje 212. The audience will have the opportunity to see the performances: First Face Bitef tetra, 1981 Novi Sad Theater (Újvidéki Színház) from Novi Sad, Nan important man – of the Timočka Krajina National Theater 'Zoran Radmilovići' from Zaječar, Three winters Theater "Change" from Novi Sad, The Klukana dynasty from the Nis National Theater and two stage readings of new contemporary plays: Transformation: The genesis of a decline Teodore Marković i The time when stones are collected Arsenija Shtimac."
Gordana Goncić emphasizes that "Atelje 212 was and must be a place that carries a new, original and provocative interpretation of theater, a theater of a unique moment, an exciting place that knows the spirit of the times and creates theater as a space of unique experience, which questions all the phenomena of contemporary society and life". so that's why. "Boris Liješević to direct an author's project on the topic of theater with the working title My theater".
Then: "Tatjana Mandić Rigonat will direct her dramatization of the famous novel by Gustave Flaubert." Madam Bovary The Love Life of Emma Bovary or Emma That's Me in which he re-examines the position of a woman in a traditional marriage in conflict with her desires and aspirations in the new era that is emerging. It is a dilemma that is current to this day. A traditional wife or a woman with her own dreams?”
We have not been able to find out if Madam Bovary in the National Theater (directed by Tatjana Mandić Rigonat) has the same template as the one in "Atelje 212", or it is about two dramatizations.
Gordana Goncić then announces the Serbian premiere of a contemporary British drama Sex/Crimes Alexis Gregorija, directed by Đorđe Nešović, explains that "one of the goals of Atelier 212 is openness to new and young authors, which in this case is, in addition to discovering a new writer to the domestic audience, and cooperation with one of the most promising domestic directors of the latest generation."
He also announces that he will write a novel Transformation, Metamorphosis Edvard Lui, dramatized by Dimitri Kokanov, directed by Bojan Đorđev. "Edward Luy is currently one of the most awarded and translated prose writers in the world, and this will be the first staging of his work in Serbia."
For the second half of the year, he announces the project of the actors "Atelje 212", who "through their unique experience and built style created and contributed to the further building of the specific spirit of the theater", the play by Gorica Popović Old people.
"In the coming year, we will mark the 40th anniversary of the death of the greatest actor of 'Atelje 212', Zoran Radmilović, with the project 'Serbia on the Move'. Continuing his mission of decentralizing the theater, it will be a tour of successful performances in which our most famous artists perform, in the most remote places of the country," announced Gordana Goncić.
Yugoslav Drama Theater
By the end of 2025, four premieres on the Big Stage and two to three on the Small Stage are planned, the Yugoslav Drama Theater told us. They did not know other details, because the Management Board did not specify them.
Apart from the Prime Minister, they expect numerous trips: Rome, (Teatro di Roma), HNK Zagreb, HNK Rijeka, SNG Ljubljana, MNT Skopje.
"Boško Buha" Theater
"Perhaps the most important thing is that in 2025 we hope to return to the home stage at Trg Republike." The works have seriously heated up and the deadline for completion is the fall of this year," Maša Mihailović, director of Boško Buha, told the "Vremena" portal.
He announces that since 2025 is the jubilee year, the 75th year since the foundation of the theater, the programs will "address all ages that have been the audience of our house all these years: preschool children, schoolchildren, younger and older teenagers and adult audiences."
He also says that they do not deviate from their most common repertory orientation, which consists of fairy tales and classics, and announces:
"The Three Musketeersdirected by Ivan Vuković and based on the text written by Ken Ludwig (whose "Murder in the Orient Express" was successfully performed on the Večernja scena) based on the novel by Alexander Dima. Ken Ludwig wrote this play in a readable and modern way, close to the spirit of today's teenagers, so they will recognize in every way the story of young D'Artagnan and his sister Sabine and their departure to Paris in search of adventure. This is a story about heroism, friendship, betrayal, and above all about honor, which nowadays seems like a forgotten word, and which especially needs to be reminded of the teenage audience."
Maša Mihailović also announces "Thumb, based on the text of Milena Depolo, and based on the motifs of Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale, directed by Staša Koprivica, which is intended for preschool audiences", and notes that they are continuing "work on the play Jeu Mile Mašović Nikolić and Milice Kralj, directed by Milice Kralj, which was planned and started last year, but will premiere this year".
Jeu is something new in the repertoire practice of "Boško Buha". The main topics explored by Mila Mašović and Milica Kralj are the evolution of partner relationships and the sustainability of love. This includes the generation gap, the relationship between the present and the future regarding the understanding of love relationships, the issue of accepting the model of education and resistance, rebellion and reconciliation, the issue of slavery to stereotypes and breaking social clichés, the issue of loneliness... Actors play multiple roles - both their parents and their children, former and current partners etc.
Small theater "Duško Radović"
They are planning four premieres.
Bojana Karajović, the director of "Radović", points out that "the most favorite and most important collaboration during the next year" awaits them with Anja Suša, the former director of this theater for many years, who will direct the play Youth without God Eden von Horvat.
"At the beginning of the year, an author's project by Ivan Baletić (in collaboration with Mina Milošević), dedicated to Nikola Tesla, awaits us. It will be an interesting rollercoaster of all the magic that Tesla has left us. Then Đurđa Tešić will stage a play by the Croatian writer Jelena Kovačić Little Frida, and Robert Waltl is scheduled to direct the puppet show Hedgehog's house Branko Ćopić".
This year, "Radović" opens the Grad Theater in Budva with a spectacle and an ensemble performance Treasure Island which is a precedent, because it will be the first time that a children's theater performance opens the festival for adults.
All the above plans, we were told in the theaters, were designed in the light of the minimum expected budget.

The results of the competition for cultural programs at the Expo 2027 exhibition lead to the conclusion that the selected and very expensively paid projects missed the point, and that the only thing that matters is that there should be something at the Expo that the organizers will call culture

More than 20 festivals were not held last year and this year, the FCS has not announced competitions for two years, the Ministry of Culture rejects projects of art associations, the removal of successful directors and the appointment of people who do not promise... all this is evidence that we are living a culture of destruction, according to the research of the Center for Cultural Studies

In the Viennese auction house Doroteum, a painting by the Croatian author Vlaho Bukovac was sold for half a million euros, it will soon be exhibited in Zagreb, and the public there does not know the name of the buyer

The play "Professional" is performed for the 50th time. "It is incredible that in forty years - since writing about the then government and communism, little has changed," says its author, Dušan Kovačević.
